Barefoot Books Stories from the Opera
Style: BB-006
"Children need music! This anthology introduces them to opera in an unforgettable way." - Placido Domingo
Opera is one of the most spectacular and exhilarating art forms in the world, but is often perceived as being difficult for children to understand. Author Shahrukh Husain has selected seven classical operas, retelling them in a way that will capture the imagination of today's children. Each story opens with background information on the composer and a scene-setting introduction, while end-notes offer advice for parents on best recordings.
This colorful book includes the following seven operas: Britten's The Little Sweep, Mozart's The Magic Flute, Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel, Wagner's The Flying Dutchman, Rossini's La Cenerentola, Von Gluck's Orpheus and Eurydice, and Rimsky-Korsakov's Christmas Eve. Each retelling begins with a page of information on the origin of the story and a few facts about the composer, and is delightfully illustrated with renderings of graceful costumed figures from the opera and at least one dramatic full-page ink-and-watercolor painting.
