European researchers measured and proved Antimony leaches through vinyl on crib mattresses, and linked this to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Europe has been moving away from using flame retardants and requires them be proven safe before being used. We feel there is enough evidence to suggest that it's not worth the risk. Just use organic mattresses and don't expose your newborn to dangerous toxins.
